| Welcome to Songkhla |
|
Welcome to goddamn big pictures of me with Tang and her family in Songkhla. Songkhla is a province in southern Thailand, the capitol of which is named Songkhla. That's where Samila Beach is. Tang's family lives in Ranot, a smaller town to the north. Samila Beach My rephrasing of the plaque there: A Chinese merchant came often to Songkhla to trade. One day he saw a cat and a dog acting friendly with one another. Impressed, he bought them and took them aboard his junk, where they lived for many years. But finally the animals grew bored with life at sea, and conspired to escape. They met a mouse who told them that the merchant owned a magic crystal that would protect its bearer from drowning. The mouse stole the crystal, and the three animals made their way overboard. But the mouse, being greedy, swam ahead of the others, planning to sell the crystal on land and keep the fortune. The cat tried to catch him but only succeeded in frightening him. The mouse dropped the crystal, and drowned alongside the cat. They became the respective islands just off the shore of Sonkhla. The dog managed to swim to shore but died there from exhaustion; he became a hill. The crystal shattered on the rocks and became the sands of Samila Beach.
